birthday girl

'it is not so much our friends' help that helps us,
as the confidence of their help'.
- Epicurus

i love writing about my friends, i love the fact that i am blessed to have such great people around me and i often thank god for making me meet each one of them.

today i want to tell you about a person who is my support, my shoulder and my biggest guardian. i'm sure each of you has a person, who is always around and who knows all the details of your life because he/she is physically in it 24/7. who understands what's on your mind even when you say nothing and who can finish your sentence when you have only said first word. such is nata. plus to all of that, she is super caring and super fair. she has her rules and morals which she never breaks. . . and she is always there to encourage you and be on your side.

nat, i'm taking your birthday as an opportunity to thank you for all that you are to me. i will never be able to forget the support you've given me. happy birthday! may your birthday be as sweet as you are!

boiling water

there is a wonderful saying - 'the same boiling water that softens potatoes - hardens eggs. it's all about what you are made of, not your circumstances'.

i have often heard people talk about other people. it is a big hobby especially for people in such small cities as tbilisi. and while doing so, they often mention their disapproval of those people's actions and the judgement of what they would do instead. they can talk and none of us will ever be able to stop them from talking, but the most important thing here is that - nobody is allowed to judge. yes, the circumstances may be the same for different people, but everyone handles them according to what's inside of them. some people have very emotional hearts (and i attribute myself to those), some have better ability to get hold of themselves, some seem much self-controlled than they actually are and some have blood made of steel. in any case - we all deal with things differently and the circumstances that may have no effect on one person can lead to tears in other person's eyes.

the main thing is to know this when you have a problem and realize that you are not very good at dealing with it - never compare yourself to others and never worry that somebody else would deal with it better, nor judge others who have their own ways of coping with things/or not coping. it's their life and you have nothing to do with their way of living it.

here's a nice song for you today by stevie wonder and my favourite dionne warwick - it's you

little grocery game

those of you who read my blog may have noticed my hobby of observing things. i like to watch people in the streets, i like observing friends, couples, families. in the restaurants, i like thinking about people on the tables around - what they do, how they are related to each other, i come up with different stories about everyone and begin imagining what their life looks like.

one more silly thing i do is that i look at the grocery shopping lists of other people in the row in front of me, and at all the parallel cashier desks which i can see and make predictions about their lives. this is the best and funniest way to kill minutes of standing in the long queues.

you can say for sure that a person has a child, even guess if it's a boy or a girl, you can see how health-oriented he or she is, does she have a big family? if she picks up several packs of chicken and lots of vegetables - you can for sure say she's cooking for a big family of minimum four. i often see guys who buy some really single boy things - plates, razors, small dish-washing liquids (obviously the least practical of all), packs of beer; or school friends, who bring together all the coins that their parents have given them and buy candies for their classmate girls..

.. and then i stop to look at my grocery. it would be super interesting to know what somebody standing behind me would think of me after looking at the things i buy.

it would be easy to guess i have a child, apart of the fact that my child is usually there with me shopping, i have lots of child things - cornflakes, cookies, yogurts, animal shaped pastas and lots of books, which i manage to find anywhere i shop. they would guess i am a sweets-loving person and that our family really really loves guests. they would also think that i am a vegetarian and my husband loves meat. they would definitely be wrong because it is all vice versa in my family, but then, i can't control their thoughts, so if in somebody's thoughts i am a healthy food eater, that won't be too bad. they would know i love to bake more than cook and that i work for borjomi. and in all their predictions they will be pretty much close to truth.

so next time you do your grocery shopping have a look at what you buy - it is funny to realize how your shopping list looks in the eyes of someone from the outside.

i am writing this post listening to curtis mayfield and his 'let's not forget', which has absolutely nothing to do with the topic of this post, but which i don't want to lose. when i want to listen to some nice music i always open my blog - here is the place where i keep all the songs i love, even more than in any playlist of mine.

breaking the silence

the first (belated) post of new year i want to dedicate to happiness. one of my most favourite books of all times is 'hector and the search for happiness' by francois lelord. i have not once posted its wisdom, but here i want to bring all the happiness lessons together.

all the lessons are so true once you read and think about them.

take a second to think about what makes your happiness. 13qwdfxqbv v bxcxddssdfg4 - this is what makes mine - small fingers of my son, interfering with my post-writing and pressing the buttons on the keypad with a lion in his hands.

my favourite choice

not all of our best friends follow us from childhood. when we are little, our friends are the ones with whom we go to kindergarden, later school and university, those are the children of our parents' friends, the classmates of our siblings, our neighbours and dance class partners. those are the people we don't choose, life gives them to us according to the circumstances. many of them are then lost, but the few who stay, stay forever. when we grow up, we choose our friends ourselves. of course life and destiny have those people laid in store for us in a way, but the choice is more dependent on us, than it was at the time we wore ballerina skirts at age 7.

today is the birthday of my favourite choice - mancho. she is someone who is always there. someone who understands me a bit more than i understand myself. and someone who always believes in me, even when i don't. mancho is a true sunshine, her laughter is absolutely contagious, her heart is open for everyone and she fits there so many people who are lucky to get the rays of her sun. and she is real, she never lets you down and is your partner in every crime.

manch, thank you for all you support and love. you know that i am always there for you to share your every smile and every emotion. and i am the luckiest person in the world to be your personal choice too.

the happy wait

we all wait for something. in this post i won't be talking about why the waiting is bad, why we should never wait and do things right away. in this  post i want to talk about the good waiting, the good feelings waiting gives us.

probably this is the time of the year when everyone is in waiting mode globally. with december getting colder and colder everyday, our hopes and dreams for the coming year are getting bigger and bigger. i love that super feeling between now and the actual moment when you know something you have been thinking and getting ready for is coming. the moment of happy shaking heart. when you count the days and it is closer and closer. may it be the arrival of your friends whom you have been missing a lot, your birthday for those who love it, the opening of presents under the christmas tree, or more precisely, the opening of your presents by someone for whom you have been packing them in the first place; the flight date to a long awaited destination, the airing of your project, the ding of your favourite dish on the oven, first snow in georgia, a present on your workplace from secret santa, a perfectly fitting dress from the atelier, the city lighting up with the decorations, the first notes of the song on a concert of your favourite band - i'm talking about all those things that you know for sure are going to happen and you keep striking out the days on the calendar to get closer to them every day.

the best part about this waiting is knowing that some of the best things of our lives haven't happened yet. and we exactly know they are worth waiting for.
